Therapy for Individual Adults

I’m probably a bit biased, but I truly believe that everyone can benefit from therapy at some point in their lives! Everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported- whether you are grieving a loss, dealing with a difficult life change, working through past wounds, discovering who you are, or simply feeling stuck.  I am honored when people choose to share their stories with me.  I believe each person holds inherent value and unique strengths, and part of my work as a therapist is to support people as they recognize the value and strength within themselves.

There are countless life situations that might benefit from therapy, and there’s a therapist out there that can meet your particular needs. Here are some examples of areas in which I have experience and expertise:

  • General anxiety

  • Life transitions

  • Understanding how we’ve been shaped by our past, and how this impacts us today

  • Creating boundaries and developing assertiveness

  • Trauma healing (I am an EMDR-trained provider)

  • Grief and loss support

  • Navigating relationships

  • Healing of old wounds and past distressing experiences

  • Developing strategies to manage overwhelming emotions such as worry, sadness, depression, anger, and frustration

  • Perinatal mental health- support during pregnancy and the postpartum period

  • Parenting support

My Approach

Individualized

My approach is unique to each person, I will move at your pace, and learn your preferences for how you want our sessions to look. For those interested in experiential interventions, we might try an art-based activity or a mindfulness exercise.

Strengths-Based

I enjoy helping people identify their existing strengths and how they can use them to work towards their goals, as people often possess more strengths than they realize. Focusing on strengths, rather than deficits, tends to be a helpful mindset shift.

Goal-Oriented

Having goals helps ensure that the time we spend together is meaningful for you. If you’re unsure of your goals, that’s okay! Many come to therapy not quite knowing what they want or need, just knowing they’d like something to change.

Holistic

We will consider all areas of your life to discover what may be impacting your mental health and how you’re feeling overall. Issues such as depression and anxiety do not exist in a vacuum, and it can be extremely helpful to consider the big picture.

Solution-Focused

The problem at hand tends to take up a lot of space in our minds. Rather than getting stuck on the problem, I assist clients in envisioning what changes and healing they hope to see in their lives- imagining what they do want instead of what they don’t want.

Evidence-Based

I draw from theories and approaches such as Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic Theory, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I also bring an expertise in child development.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an evidence-based therapy technique used to address triggers, emotional wounds, and other symptoms stemming from distressing life events. EMDR can be useful in processing singular events (such as a car accident), as well as long-term stressors (such as childhood emotional wounds). When we go through a distressing experience, sometimes our brains are not able to fully process the event. As a result, those memories can get “stuck” in a way that causes ongoing emotional pain. As an EMDR-trained provider, I am trained to guide clients through getting these memories “unstuck” and moving toward healing. EMDR can be helpful for those who are just getting started in their healing journey, and for those who feel they’ve reached a wall and are ready to try something different. Please reach out if you’re wondering if EMDR is right for you!

Curious about teletherapy?

Participating in therapy through electronic means, such as video chat or phone call, has become increasingly popular, and often necessary for our safety and wellbeing. Some find this an easy and natural way to engage, while others are less certain. While teletherapy has been found to be an effective mode of therapy, there are some obvious differences to meeting face-to-face. I am here to work patiently with you as we adjust to this new way of connecting with each other. Since making the switch from in-person to virtual therapy services, my clients and I have experienced the many benefits of this modality.

One of the greatest benefits is easier access to therapy. Driving across town for yet another appointment can add hours to our day. For those in rural areas, access to therapy services may be very limited. For various reasons, commuting can be overwhelming, if not impossible. With teletherapy you can participate wherever you can find a safe and private location- home, office, back porch, or even while going for a walk.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or curiosities related to teletherapy.
